Type:

Color changing glass refers to the glass that changes its color under certain conditions such as light, temperature, electric field or current, and surface pressure, and changes accordingly with the change of conditions. When the applied conditions disappear, it can reversibly and automatically return to its original state, also known as dimming glass.

With the change of the external environment, the color changing glass changes its transmission characteristics, which can effectively control the solar radiation energy, so as to achieve the purpose of energy conservation.

According to the change mechanism of glass properties, the chromotropic glass can be divided into photochromic glass, thermochromic glass, electrochromic glass and force chromotropic glass. Among them, photochromic and electrochromic glass is particularly concerned by people in the curtain wall industry.

The principle of discoloration:

The electrochromic material undergoes electrochemical redox reaction under the action of an applied electric field, gains or loses electrons, and changes the color of the material.

Device structures from top to bottom are: glass or transparent substrate material, transparent conductive layer (such as ITO), electrochromic layer, electrolyte layer, ion storage layer, transparent conductive layer (such as ITO), glass or transparent substrate material.

When the device works, a certain voltage is applied between two transparent conductive layers, and the electrochromic layer material undergoes redox reaction under the action of voltage, and the color changes; The electrolyte layer is composed of special conductive materials, such as solution or solid electrolyte materials containing lithium perchlorate, sodium perchlorate, etc; The ion storage layer plays the role of storing corresponding counter ions and maintaining the charge balance of the whole system when the electrochromic material undergoes redox reaction. The ion storage layer can also be an electrochromic material with the opposite color changing performance to the previous electrochromic material, which can play the role of color superposition or complementation. For example, if the electrochromic layer is made of anodized electrochromic material, the ion storage layer can be made of anodized electrochromic material.
